Transforming struggling readers into confident kids who love to learn

Our Approach

Our individualized approach to teaching reading is grounded in the Science of Reading and the proven techniques of Orton-Gillingham.

Child-Centered

Our tutoring starts with an Orton-Gillingham-based assessment. We identify strengths and weaknesses in phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, spelling, and writing strategies and build out a prescriptive scope and sequence that’s customized to your child’s individual needs.

During the assessment, we find out what your child likes, what they’re passionate about, and what makes them excited about learning. We fill the tutoring space with as much of the child as possible because we know that the more they see themselves within the space, the more they’ll engage and take away from the learning experience.

Multi-Sensory

We teach tools and strategies so that a student is processing language using their visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile senses all simultaneously. If there is a weakness in one particular area, they will be using all of their learning pathways in order to compensate. It leads to more effective processing and longer term retention of concepts. In addition, it makes for a more active and engaging learning experience that our students find fun and interactive.

Direct & Explicit

The Orton-Gillingham approach has identified hundreds of patterns and consistencies in language, turning it into a math or science. We use direct and explicit language to teach the systems of English to our students. We demystify the process and make learning to read logical and comprehensive.

Basic to Complex

The tutoring journey always moves through a basic to complex scope and sequence. We fill basic gaps first and create a solid foundation before moving on to more complex areas of learning. We never introduce a concept that is too difficult for a child as we want to make sure they are always successful and building confidence as they develop their reading skills.
