How we Help Your Child

Novel Tutoring has helped hundreds of students with attention challenges and ADHD to overcome reading struggles and unlock their true potential. See how we can help your child as well.

ADHD Specialists

In our ADHD Tutoring Program, we will match your child with an experienced reading tutor that is trained in Structured Literacy and best meets their personality. The tutor will provide undivided attention and work with your child in structured and engaging exercises.

Assessment

Your tutor will start with a thorough assessment of your child’s reading skills and preferred learning style. Based on the outcome, we will develop a customized learning plan for your child including multi-sensory activities that help your child to keep focus and process learnings.

Intensive Learning

Your child will work with our tutor online in two or more virtual 1:1 sessions per week. Sessions are 30 minutes each and may even be shorter to begin with, depending on your child’s needs. Throughout the program, you will receive a weekly progress report from our tutor via email.

ADHD - Challenge and Potential

ADHD brings its own set of challenges in learning - short attention spans, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. However, it also opens a door to extraordinary strengths - creativity, energy, and exceptional problem-solving skills. We recognize the emotional journey for families from having worked with many students who struggle with focus and attention over the past 10 years - the concern when your child falls behind with reading, the frustration with traditional teaching methods, and the worry about their their academic and social well-being.

Our program acknowledges the challenges for children diagnosed with ADHD, but more importantly, it focuses on the potential within each child. We aim to transform perceived weaknesses into avenues for success, fostering an environment where children with ADHD can thrive. With the right support and teaching methods, they can excel not only in academics but also in life, turning their perceived weaknesses into strengths.

Our founders Robyn and Martha understand these challenges intimately. Though never formally diagnosed with a learning disability, they struggled to focus and read in the classroom. At Novel Tutoring, they have created the learning environment for students with ADHD that they wished to have in the past.

The Novel approach is rooted in understanding, patience, and the belief that every child has the ability to excel in their own distinctive way. Our tutors aim to unlock the full spectrum of your child's potential and empowering them to see ADHD not as a hindrance but as a unique strength.

Tailored Learning with the Orton-Gillingham Approach

Multi-sensory strategies

We offer students multi-sensory tools and strategies that help them process language using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile learning pathways, simultaneously. Students process learnings more effectively can retain concepts long-term.

Direct and explicit instruction

Orton-Gillingham has identified hundreds of patterns and consistencies in English, turning language into a math and science. We use direct and explicit instruction to teach these patterns and consistencies to our learners, and takes the guesswork out of learning how to read.

Child-centered learning

All our tutoring programs are tailored to each student’s specific learning needs. Our initial Orton-Gillingham based assessment identifies literacy gaps and leads to a customized learning plan that incorporates a student’s likes and interests as much as possible.

Basic to complex

After we know the foundational literacy gaps that the student is struggling with, our phonics tutors move from basic to complex material. We make sure that each learner is successful as they tackle new challenges so that they gain confidence in their ability to read and write.
